Counselling Service

Toora leverages clients’ strengths and understands that a history of trauma can impact their life today. Toora works alongside our clients to find ways of coping and improved life outcomes. Our counsellors use a wide range of evidence-based treatments and therapeutic interventions, such as motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapies. Together, the client and counsellor explore goals and strategies to work through a variety of issues associated with past and present trauma.

Toora’s counselling service is delivered by qualified and registered counsellors and is available to women, non-binary and other feminine-identifying people aged over 18. Both current Toora service users and new clients are welcome.

In addition to our counselling sessions, we also offer group programs that focus on parenting and healing from trauma, including:

  • Circles of Security Program (COS-P)
This eight-week group for parents helps to increase attachment security between parent and child. The program aims to support parents to better understand their child’s emotional needs, successfully manage their children’s emotions and enhance the development of their child’s self-esteem. COS-P is perfect for parents who spend time with their children regularly and who may be experiencing behavioural or emotional struggles. COS-P is internationally recognised and evidence-based. Our facilitators are all trained to a high standard and maintain strong program fidelity.
  • Healing Trauma Group
This six-week group gives clients the coping skills to effectively heal from trauma, regaining power and self-love in their lives. During this program, women will learn about trauma, anger, self-care and healthy relationships. Our trained counsellors understand that everyone’s experience of trauma is different, and they provide a welcoming, non-judgmental and safe place for people to be exactly who they are.
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
This eight-week program involves evidence-based therapy designed for people who are experiencing problems with substance use, or who have experienced traumas such as Domestic and Family Violence. This group focusses on teaching skills to effectively cope with emotions, impulse control, relationships and self-image.
