It takes more than houses to help women out of homelessness and into stability.
It takes community change, and your workplace or school can be part of that change by raising funds for us during Homelessness Week.
How you can help
Homelessness Week is on 5 to 11 August, with the theme “Homelessness Action Now”. Sadly, too many Canberrans are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. In just the first five months of 2024, Toora Women supported 300 women and children, providing over 20,000 nights of accommodation. That is over 20,000 nights too many. However, with the rising rate of domestic and family violence and the continued lack of affordable housing in the ACT, this number will likely only increase. We need action on homelessness, both in the long term and right now. If you believe in a world where everyone has a home, please help by fundraising for Toora in your workplace this Homelessness Week. |
What we do
Every day, Toora changes Canberra women’s lives; for some, we save them.
In 2023, kind donations from our community contributed to us being able to provide 91,576 days of service to women across the ACT, with many instances of women coming to us in crisis.
Our work is about more than homelessness. Many of our clients who are impacted by homelessness are also affected by other factors including domestic violence, substance dependency and poor mental health.
At Toora, we work holistically with women and see the intersections between all these things. Our aim is to support women and feminine-identifying people through these life altering events and provide them with the tools to break cycles, in turn, creating better life outcomes.

What your donation will go towards
Donations raised this winter will support us to continue to run our fundamental life skills programs, providing women with basic knowledge on cooking, financial literacy and physical exercise. The funds will also go towards education and employment pathways, ensuring that women and feminine-identifying people can continue to access further education and meaningful employment.
In addition, funds raised will help Canberra women and feminine-identifying people with things like:
- simple meals for families in need
- basic household items like bedding, toiletries, and furniture
- transport to help women and children get around independently and safely.
